FRISK did assist in arranging an expert exchange on very short notice. The FRISK contact point in Victoria (Chris Odd) really did go the extra mile to make this happen.
The ongoing incident in Wye River is of great interest for the forest fire community in Norway. http://emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/#!/incident/1552223
Especially the use of resources, tactics and streategiews in the wildland-urban interface WUI.
The next topic of interest is AIMS (all incident management system), also in the urban interface during fires. (Preparation, handling and follow up)
Norway implemented ICS/AIMS in 2004 and is still working to improve the IMT (Incident Management Teams) and how they handle small and large incidents. The Norwegian ICS/ELS is based on the CIMS in New Zealand.
Resources from New Zealand were also deployed on the incident, and all information on the host nation support and the international cooperation will be shared.
Further to this, the Norwegian delegation will be looking for operational use of helicopters during forest fires. Cooperation between different agencies and the municipalities involved in the incident is also of interest.
Norway will send 3 delegates:
Chef fire inspector: Henrik Sveinung Brokke: in charge of dispatch center in Telemark and EU expert, IMT
Chief fire officer: Carina Halvorsen - in charge of forest fire preparedness in our region Telemark, IMT . Norway representative in forest fire comity in CTIF. (international association of fire and recue service)
Civil defense specialist Vegar Falch-Pedersen - in charge of civil defense resources during forest fires. (http://www.dsb.no/nn/toppmeny/English/National-preparedness1/)
