Enhancing the resilience of European forest landscapes by promoting intelligent handling of natural disturbances as integral part of sustainable management

'Nature'-Article gives good arguments to go for a European Forest Risk Facility.

The statements made from Susan L. Cutter and colleagues in their article published in 'Nature' (6/2015)are along the same lines. as the vision of a European Forest Risk Facility.

To illustrate one example that the FRISK-GO project used in the context of wildfire: “Why not invest a few percentage of the money spent for fire suppression for managing forest to become more resilient. That will lead to savings in fighting wildfires and actually result in reduced losses of forest and surely in lives and property!"

The paper 'Global risks: Pool knowledge to stem losses from disasters' is a good supporting document for the idea of a European Forest Risk Facility. In particular it states the role of governments and the interaction between science disciplines and the incorporation of tacit knowledge. That will lead to achieving a more holistic and effective approach towards resilience and mitigation. As the FRISK-GO project states as main guiding principle:
